The Fly Cage – Trap for Horse Flies, Deer Flies, Greenheads & Yellow Flies

The Fly Cage is specifically engineered to trap the most aggressive biting flies: horse flies, deer flies, greenheads, and yellow flies. These species are attracted to carbon dioxide (CO₂) and body heat, which is why they often target humans and animals during outdoor activities.

Unlike common house flies or stable flies, these biting flies are visual hunters. The Fly Cage uses a highly visible black lure, which moves with the wind and mimics body motion. As flies approach, they instinctively fly upward—straight into the capture cage—where they dehydrate and die.

Each Fly Cage is effective within line of sight, covering approximately ½ acre. For larger properties, we recommend using multiple traps spaced across open areas to ensure optimal control.

For best results, place the Fly Cage:

  • pastures or barns (for livestock protection)
  • pools, sunny patios, or shaded edges where flies gather
  • open fields or backyards where the lure is visible from all directions

🛠️ Pro Tip: Every yard is different. Try a few placements to see where fly activity is highest.

By interrupting the reproductive cycle of biting flies—especially females that need a blood meal to lay eggs—the Fly Cage helps reduce populations season after season.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

Q1: What types of flies does the Fly Cage trap?

The Fly Cage is designed to trap biting flies such as horse flies, deer flies, greenheads, and yellow flies. It is not intended for mosquitoes, houseflies, or stable flies.

Q2: How does the Fly Cage work?

The Fly Cage uses a black lure suspended below the cage to mimic movement and heat. Visual hunter flies are attracted to it and fly upward into the trap where they dehydrate and die.

Q3: Why do only female flies bite?

Only female horse flies and greenheads bite because they need a blood meal to develop and lay eggs. By catching these females before they reproduce, the Fly Cage helps reduce future fly populations.

Q4: How much area does one Fly Cage cover?

One Fly Cage covers about ½ acre of open space. Visibility is key. For larger properties, we recommend placing multiple traps in high-activity zones.

Q5: Where is the best place to set up the Fly Cage?

The trap should be placed in sunny, open areas where flies can see it from all directions. Ideal locations include pastures, barns, poolside areas, patios, or the edge of shaded tree lines.

Q6: Is the Fly Cage safe for pets and livestock

Yes. It contains no electricity, chemicals, or attractants—making it completely safe for use around animals and children.

Q7: Does the Fly Cage require any maintenance?

Very minimal. Occasionally remove dead flies and make sure the trap remains clean and visible. No bait or chemicals are ever needed.

Q8: How long does the Fly Cage last?

The Fly Cage is constructed from durable, weather-resistant materials and can last multiple seasons with proper care.

Q9: How quickly will I see results?

Many customers report a noticeable reduction in biting flies within 3–7 days of setup, especially in areas with high fly activity.

Q10: Can I use it while camping, boating, or RVing?

Absolutely. The Fly Cage is lightweight and portable—perfect for outdoor activities where biting flies are a nuisance. However, The Fly Cage was designed to eliminate biting flies over time, so it may not be as effective in this scenario.
